5 Tips On

How To Start Your

Fitness Journey

___________________

Hey hey, Welcome to the first Smile With Movement Blog!

This will be a safe space to share and receive
valuable knowledge, build in our community, and
continue to grow in our individual paths.

Maybe you've been thinking about starting and you don't know what to do. Or You've started multiple times and need some encouragement to do it again....

Here are 5 tips to help jumpstart and guide you on your way. Feel free to take what you need and leave what you don't. Also, do your own research and see what other things may be beneficial for you and your journey.

1. Speak with your Doctor

First, before you start your journey be sure to speak with your current Doctor. Go in for a routine check-up, get your stats, and tell your dr you're interested in starting your fitness journey. Also, let them know any issues that may have come up since your last visit so they can get a full overview of where you are. Then your Dr. will be sure to tell you any health concerns or issues that might be present and how fitness may or may not befitting for you at the moment. If your Dr. says you need to do get some things in order, listen and get to it so you don't prolong the start of your journey more than you need to. If the Dr gives you a green light, then you’re ready to kick off your journey.

2. Know Your Why/Set Goals

Everyone's journey will be different due to everyone having a different "Why". If you don't know what your why is, it is the reason or reasons behind your starting fitness journey. You can want to lose or gain weight. You can also want to maintain weight and build muscle mass. You can want to get stronger, or train for an event like a 5K marathon. You can also just want to try to be more active for the little children in your life (kids, grandkids, god kids, nieces, nephews. etc.) Or you can simply want a healthier lifestyle to keep your mind, body, and spirit connection well rounded. It's literally your choice and you should be the main person who wants it for yourself.

3. Start Now

The journey itself is ONLY the second or later half, the first half is literally starting. Don’t take your time thinking you need the "perfect" plan or wait around for the beginning of a new month or new week. JUST START! You can even start with maybe 2-3x a week for at least 30 minutes. Plus, nowadays there are many ways you can start. You can pick videos from youtube or Instagram. You can start by taking classes at your local gym. You can find a trainer that fits what you're looking for in terms of their specialty and what goals you are aiming for. You can keep trying different things until you find something you like. Just don’t keep waiting and waiting and waiting because then you're making the timeline longer than it really needs to be. JUST START!

4. Change Your Mindset

Your mindset is important in every aspect of your life and it should definitely be a part of your fitness journey. You should believe that you are capable of accomplishing the goals you have set out for yourself even if it doesn't happen as fast as you want. You should think positively about your journey even on the off days you will have. Let go of the negative thoughts and worries about failure. It's all a part of the process and we just have to keep trying even when we fall. You should surround yourself with a support system that will encourage and uplift you during your journey to help keep you on track and to challenge you when you seem to veer off. Changing your mindset can be difficult and take some time but once you get the hang of it you will realize the benefit of the change and appreciate it all the more.

5. Make It a Lifestyle

So you started, now what?

You've reached your goal, now what?

You want to change your why now what?

KEEP GOING AND NEVER GIVE UP! This can now be a part of your lifestyle. Plus the reason it's a journey or "an act of traveling from one place to another" is because it never has to have a definite ending. It can just keep changing and morphing as much or as little as you need it to fit whatever stage in life you are at. It's now a part of you so how do you keep making it fresh or newer to keep you motivated to keep pushing forward. Making fitness a part of your journey takes patience, discipline, and consistency. with those three things, you will be able to strive for your fitness journey and so much more.

These are just 5 ways of many ways to start your journey and I hope they were helpful.
